I've made one horror movie. It was great!!! We used lots of a blood mixture made from washing up liquid and food colouring- very easy to wash off!
The film was about a super zombie- who wasn't slow or dumb. BUT we made it b4 28 Days later so don't say I copied!!!

i dont understand why you made the big piont to say you didnt copy 28 days later when theres countless other zombie films that came years before it, countless ones which wannabe film makers worship becos A. they are low budget and were succesful. B. It appeals to thier nerdy comic book sensibilites.
The zombie film is about as cliche as you get for a homemade movie regardless of recent movies or not...
Back to the main topic tho...
I just want to draw attention to two pionts made becos i think they are the crux of horror.
You need very good music as it adds dramaticly to the scare factor, the problem here is that everyone uses generic copyright free scary music and it just isnt that scary. Secondly lighting needs to be good... shafts of light showing only parts of the monster/thing for example can hide your beast even when it is no longer hiding. Other lighting can be used to have the character well lit but the background dark, meaning something can jump out...
Lighting and Music very important.
My guess is you wont do that tho and you will go for the camp

Well, the copying 28 Days Later was tongue in cheek, but since your very serious about it I'll explain by reminding you i said it was about a 'super-zombie' ; a little like the zombies in 28 Days Later, not like the conventional risen dead/rotted/flesh eating zombies. Like I said, tongue in cheek bud...
But- just out of interest- how come your kicking my *** about cliches then telling people about all the conventions and cliches of horror movies???

Horror and comedy are very similar as they tend to hinge on timing.
My advice is think carefully about building up suspense & make sure the execution is dead-on.
There's a fine line between horror and comedy, make sure you know which you want before you start shooting. Good luck.

Turbo Spielberg...
I only mentioned 28 days later becos you felt the need to post 10 quotes to prove your piont. So i dunno why you are saying i took it too serious.

I used 4 quotes cos James Allison came across as very snotty- so i wanted to really prove my point.
Mission accomplished i wud say !
Then u asked why I made a big deal about 28 Days Later- my big point was to James Allison- he needed things cleared up for him.
Then u said zombie movies were cliche anyway- true point, but i was only kidding about not copying 28 days later for ***** sake- lighten up! U take a swipe at me, I'll take a swipe at you.
